Instructor: Karen Barry - Printmaker, Designer, Fine Artist

This two-day workshop will introduce the art of making linocut prints. Discover how artists in the early 20th century began to print carved linoleum  as a means of artistic expression. Different examples of linocut work done in the past 100 years will offer some inspiration regarding how this medium can be used for your own self-expression.

Come to class with a design or sketch that you want to make a print from. You will learn about designing, transferring your design to a piece of linoleum, and carving techniques. We will use hand printing methods throughout so that you can continue to print without a press at home with minimal investment in equipment.

We will print with one color (black) on paper suitable for adding hand coloring, if desired. The class is flexible, so, time permitting, you will be able to make prints and add color with watercolors, color pencils, etc. Or if you just want to concentrate on one-color design, you can work on another block.

Bring a bag lunch.
