Art exhibit at the Bankhead Theater Gallery
BIRDS of a FEATHER
Birds are taking off on the walls of the Gallery at the Bankhead Theater. A new art exhibition, “Birds of a Feather,” opens November 2, 2016 with works of art created in all types of two-dimensional mediums, including oils, acrylics, mixed media, and photography. The pieces are the work of many local artists and photographers and show traditional, stylized, and abstracted representations along a bird-related theme. Curated by the Bothwell Arts Center, “Birds of a Feather” runs through January 2, 2017.
An Artists’ Reception will be held Sunday, November 13 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Free and open to the public, the reception provides an opportunity to admire the works and meet some of the artists. In addition, featured special guest speaker Sherri Lizardo will speak about native birds and their habitats, their feathering and coloring, and their nesting habits. Lizardo brings years of expertise as a bird wildlife rescuer and will talk about the best times of year to view plumage and migrating patterns, which is of special interest to artists and photographers. Lizardo’s own “Special Guests”, an African Grey Parrot and a dove, will appear at the Bankhead with her.
“In addition to enjoying the bird-themed art, this event will be a great opportunity to ask a true bird expert questions about the local native birds. Sherri is especially knowledgeable about wild bird rescue and has really interesting stories to share,” said Anne Giancola, co-manager of the Bothwell Arts Center and curator for the “Birds of a Feather” exhibit.
Part of the Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center, the Visitor’s Center and Galley is located in the lobby of the Bankhead Theater at 2400 First Street, Livermore, and is open seven days a week from 12 noon to 6:00 p.m. Admission is free. The works on display during the exhibit are available for purchase. More information is available online at bothwell.lvpac.org.
