Learn to make Art like a Real Artist would. Draw and paint from real life, reference and imagination. Classes cater for individual needs and preferences if it applies. Learn different techniques, styles and processes used in drawing and painting. Learn Art Theory, Art History and several mediums and practical applications. That’s Not Art!
An appreciation of art through the modern masters. That’s Not Art! is a fun, hands-on, class that allows students to experiment with technique while learning about the greats. Each class students will take home 1-2 of their own works for art!
Focusing on enjoying the artistic process, and not judging your own work, this class introduces students to modern greats such as Warhol, Cezanne, and Georgia O’Keefe. We will learn to recognize famous works of art that can be found in SFMOMA, the de Young, and the Legion of Honor. Please come ready to get your hands messy. All abilities welcome! This is an inclusive class.

1. Color Outside the Lines
Exploring the development of color through art history, we will work on mixing color. Each student will create a color wheel and an abstract painting. Artist highlights include: Warhol, Pollock, O’Keefe
2. What’s the Point
Dive into pointillism with the use of fine-tipped tools, fingers, and stencils. Each student will make two pointillism paintings. Artist highlights include: Seurat, Kusama, Van Gogh
3. Cubism Squared
Learn to see the world through the kaleidoscope of cubism. We will experiment with combining shapes and colors to create landscapes and self-portraits. Artist highlights include: Picasso, Barque, Mondrian
4. I’m Impressed
Take a journey through a starry night, and rest in the garden with water lilies. Our final class combines elements from all previous lessons. Artist Highlights include: Van Gogh, Cassatt, and Cezanne
